Obituary

Wanda Joyce Underwood, age 86, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, surrounded by those she loved. A devoted woman of faith, a tireless worker, and the heart of her family, Wanda leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and steadfast devotion to God and family.

Wanda was a lifelong believer in God and faithfully lived out her faith through kindness, humility, and service to others. She was a devoted lifetime member of the First Church of God, where she served for many years as the church pianist, blessing countless worship services with her music and dedication.

On March 15, 1957, Wanda married the love of her life, Donald Fay Underwood, Sr. Together they shared 55 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. Their life together was rooted in faith, hard work, and family.

Wanda graduated from North Pemiscot High School in 1957. She worked at DAEOC and Noranda, but her primary and most cherished work was serving as the office manager of Underwood Farms, where her dedication, organization, and work ethic were evident every day. She understood the value of hard work and carried that lesson into every season of her life, never seeking recognition—only the opportunity to care for and provide for those she loved.

Family was Wanda's greatest joy. She was a loving wife and mother, but her favorite role was being "Mawmaw." Her grandchildren were her pride and delight, and she poured her love into them through prayers, encouragement, and countless cherished memories that will be held close forever.

Wanda possessed a quiet strength, a generous heart, and a steady presence that made others feel safe and deeply loved. Her legacy lives on in the faith she shared, the family she nurtured, and the example she set for all who knew her.

She is survived by her two children, her son, Donald (Donnie) Fay Underwood, Jr. and his wife, Justa, and her daughter, Dianna Genteman and her husband, Craig. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Joshua Douglas Underwood, Sr. and his wife, Lou; Drew Aaron Underwood, Sr. and his wife, Laura; Luke Aaron Genteman; and Shelby Leigh McFerron and her husband, James. Wanda was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Emmaline Ann Underwood; Joshua Douglas Underwood, Jr.; Drew Aaron Underwood, Jr.; Vance Bradley Underwood; and Eloise Faye McFerron, who will be welcomed into the family this coming spring.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Bernice Stafford, and her beloved husband, Donald Fay Underwood, Sr.

A celebration of Wanda's life will be held on Tuesday December 16, 2025, at Noon with visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M till time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer's Association or to the Easterseals Midwest honoring her lifelong devotion to God and her service to others. Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery, serving as Pallbearers: Josh Underwood, Drew Underwood, Luke Genteman, Ryan Underwood, Chad Underwood & James McFerron and Honorary Pallbearers: Mark Underwood & Greg Underwood.
