Jerome Hutchinson
Mar 14, 1937 — Feb 23, 2024
Crestview
Virgil Jerome "Jerry" Hutchinson was born in Chicago, IL on March 14, 1937. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 23, 2024 at his home in Crestview, FL at the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 10 days.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl Hutchinson and Virginia Worth Hutchinson, his sister Mary Carolyn Clay, his wife Lodema Hurley Hutchinson, and his son Jerry Hutchinson.
Jerry is survived by his son, Barry Hutchinson and wife Serena from Macon, GA, granddaughters Rebecca Barrouk and husband Tony Barrouk from McGuire Air Force Base, NJ, Leslie Hutchinson and fiancé Ross Crouse from Macon, GA, grandson Tristan Hutchinson from Traverse City, MI, great-granddaughter Devin Barrouk from McGuire Air Force Base, NJ, and 8 nieces and nephews.
Jerry grew up in Portageville, MO where he worked on the family farm and was employed as an Inspector for the State Department of Entomology on the Missouri/Arkansas border. He was united in marriage on November 12, 1957 to Lodema and moved shortly after to St. Louis, MO where they started their family. While living in St. Louis, he was not only a great father, but he was a father figure and role model to all the kids in the neighborhood. After living in St. Louis for a few years, Jerry began his career with Ford Motor Company, where he retired after 30 years and was a member of the UAW. He was a car enthusiast from birth until the day he died.
Upon retirement, Jerry and Lodema moved to Crestview, FL to be near their grandchildren. Jerry was avidly involved in his grandchildren's lives and was thrilled when his first great-grandchild was born in 2021.
Jerry was kind-hearted, friendly, easy-going, and had an exceptional sense of humor. He enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, walking and exercising, and was a member of the Crestview Coin Club.
Jerry's memorial will be held in Portageville, MO where he will be laid to rest in the family plot. Brackney Funeral Service handled local arrangements and DeLisle Funeral Home handled the final arrangements in Portageville, MO.
Jerry will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him, including his family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances.
