James Terrence (Terry) McCrate, 82, of Portageville, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021, surrounded by his loving wife, Brenda, and family.

In celebration of his life, a visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Delisle Funeral Home, 209 W Main St, Portageville, MO 63873. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 21, at St. Eustachius Catholic Church in Portageville. Burial will follow at Portageville Cemetery.

Terry was born on November 27, 1938, to Joseph E. McCrate and Zelline (Hobbs) McCrate. He graduated from Subiaco Academy High School in Subiaco, Arkansas, in 1956. After high school, he attended Dayton University in Ohio, Mississippi State, and Arkansas State University. Terry began his career at McCrate Equipment Company in Portageville where he worked as Shop Foreman for approximately 10 years. At the age of thirty, Terry started his successful 45-year career in farming.  He served as President of McCrate Farms for an extended period until his death. He also proudly served as President and as a board member of Portageville Gin for many years.

Terry enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter. He was passionate about all aspects of hunting, especially camping in the woods and spending time with friends. He was an accomplished archer and, for many years, participated in 3D archery tournaments. Another of his hobbies was tennis, as he enjoyed playing, watching, and attending tournaments. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with family. He particularly looked forward to the annual McCrate beach vacation with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Brands McCrate, along with four children: JoAnna McCrate of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Lisa (Jim) Campbell of Dixon, Missouri, Terry McCrate, Jr., of Mattoon, Illinois, and Parrish McCrate of Portageville; siblings: Joe George McCrate, Martha (Ray) Bohlmann, Tom (Marilyn) McCrate, and Ann McCrate; six grandchildren: Bryant (Christa) McCrate, Ashton McCrate, Terrence McCrate, Tara (Josh) Rhoades, Addie McCrate, and Amanda Campbell; three great-grandchildren: Brinley and Berkley Rhoades, and Everleigh Quick, and a host of other nieces, nephews, and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Zelline, his first wife Kay Parrish (mother of his children), his brothers Robert (Bob) and John, and his nephew Brendan.
