Obituary

Sheila Joy (Gibbins) Taylor

Sheila Joy (Gibbins) Taylor, of Dexter, Missouri, departed this life peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on September 2, 2026, at 3:42 a.m. She was 77 years old.

Sheila was born August 10, 1949, in Blytheville, Arkansas, to Fred Smith Burress and Wanda Faye (Rhodes) Burress.

On September 17, 1966, Sheila married her first love, Kenneth Earl Gibbins, in Steele, Missouri. Together, they shared two children and many wonderful years filled with work, travel, playing golf, attending church, and making cherished memories with family and friends. Sheila met Kenneth as a teenager, and he remained the love of her life. He preceded her in death on August 20, 2004, at the age of 56, leaving Sheila forever heartbroken.

Sheila worked as an insurance agent and broker alongside Kenneth in their family insurance business until her retirement. Afterward, she became a devoted homemaker and took great pride in caring for her family and their home. She especially enjoyed cooking and loved trying recipes she discovered in issues of Southern Living magazine.

On July 19, 2005, Sheila married Aaron Jackson Taylor, Jr. Aaron continued to spoil her and brought great happiness to her life. The two enjoyed traveling and spent time living in Florida before Aaron's passing on August 1, 2023.

After Aaron's passing, Sheila returned to Missouri to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She treasured her role as the family matriarch and cherished every moment spent with those she loved.

Sheila is survived by her two children and their spouses, Mark Gibbons and his wife, Lindsey, of Portageville, Missouri, and Lisa Winkle and her husband, Keven, of Dexter, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Britany (Tyler) Kimes, Summer Alexander, Clark (Tara) Ledford, Payton (Hilary) Gibbins, Abby (Clay) Johnson, Lorelei Gibbins, and Colt Gibbins; and six great-grandchildren, Bailey, Avery, Mila, Finley, Waylon, and Lincoln. She was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of four more precious great-grandchildren—two little girls and a set of twins.

She is also survived by her younger brother, Terry Burress and his wife, Ramona, of Tennessee; two precious aunts, Joy Fender and Mary Turner; a nephew; many cousins; and countless dear friends in both Missouri and Florida.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents; a beloved baby who passed away in infancy; her husbands, Kenneth Earl Gibbins and Aaron Jackson Taylor, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Ella-Claire and Luke Kimes; her grandparents; a special niece, Caitlin Burress; and many other relatives and friends.

Sheila's life was centered around the people she loved. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her home, her cooking, her laughter, and the love she gave so freely will be deeply missed. Though her family mourns her passing, they will forever carry the memories she created and the love she gave them.
