Scott Andrew
Wilson
Nov 14, 1949 — May 9, 2024
Portageville
Scott Andrew Wilson of Portageville, Missouri died unexpectedly at the age of 74 on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at his home. Scott was born in San Francisco, California and lived most of his life in Portageville. He served his country in the United States Navy, traveling to numerous countries while working on submarines. Following active duty, he continued his service and retired from the Naval Reserves in 1992. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in education. He taught for 4 years in Steele, Missouri before managing a former local favorite, Wilson's Barbeque, also known as the Daisy Queen. Scott then took a teaching and coaching position at Portageville High School and retired with the district after 22 years. Able to recall and recite obscure dates from memory and having a knack for current and historical events, he taught the history courses at PHS. "Mr. Wilson" was known for his stern teaching demeanor and likely held the record for sending the most students to the office.
Scott married Mary Jane Alsobrook of Portageville, MO in 1974. Together, they raised four children. He was a loving father and proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren who affectionately called him "Grumps". Scott was happiest at Norfork Lake in Mountain Home, Arkansas spending time with family. An avid reader of suspense novels, he could often be found with a book or listening to the St. Louis Cardinals on the radio. At family functions, he assumed his position by the grill and contributed to the humor with his quick one-liners.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Howard "Jay" and Regina Bernadette (Beneke) Wilson. Scott is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Wilson of Portageville, Missouri; children Matthew (Aimee) Wilson of Marietta, Georgia, Megan (Patrick) Carroll of St. Louis, Missouri, Ryan (Emily) Wilson of Portageville, Missouri, and Liza (Evan) Claus of Parker, Colorado; grandchildren: Parker, Hayden, Cannon and Breccan Wilson; Graham and Callen Carroll; Abigail and Lucy Wilson; Wilson and Caroline Claus, siblings Mark (Debbie) Wilson of Portageville, Missouri, Janie Wilson of Memphis, Tennessee; and beloved cousin Judy Wilson Wade of Portageville, Missouri.
