Reuben Nathan Hillis Was born July 10, 1919 in Conway, Arkansas to Zonie Stroud Hillis and Ervin Hix Hillis. He died Monday December 1, 2008 at his home in Oxford, Georgia at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 22 days. He was united in marriage to Marie Beis; she preceded him in death on August 14, 2001. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Zonie Stroud Hillis and Ervin Hix Hillis; 2 brothers: H.B. Hillis & J.T. Hillis and 1 sister, Venita Curtis. Mr.Hillis taught for 48 years at the New Madrid R1 Trade School, Gideon, Portageville & Ag classes. He served in the U.S. Navy where he received many medals such as the American Area, The Victory, The Asiatic Pacific & Good Conduct. He leaves to cherish his memories 2 sons: Ervin Hillis of Chula Vista, CA & Gary Peters of Oregon; 2 daughters: Kathy (Charles) Pollet of Oxford Georgia & Anna Marie (Don) Henderson of Lockport, IL; 1 sister: Alice (Bill) Bearden of Florissant, MO; 3 brothers: Franklin (Donna) Hillis of New Madrid, MO, Jerry (Alberta) Hillis of Melbourne, FL & Reedie (Edna) Hillis of Fredericktown, MO; 7 grandchildren: April Pollet, Eva Marie Henderson, Stephen Ray, Max Henderson, Hayden Peters, Rachel Peters Black; 1 great-grandchild: Tobias Black and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday December 6, 2008 at St. Eustachius Catholic Church with Rev. Father Alan Saunders officiating. Pallbearers were: Perry Pikey, Mike French, Barry Lee Richardson, Jr., Charles Beis, III, David Drerup & James White. Interment followed in Portageville Cemetery with DeLisle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
