Myra Ann Rone

Myra Ann (Faries) Rone, 78, of Portageville, Missouri, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday June 24, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly at her home in Portageville. Born on September 8, 1948, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Myra was the daughter of James "Buddy" Faries and Dorothy (Hobbs) Faries, who preceded her in death.

A lifelong daughter of Portageville, Myra grew up in a family deeply rooted in the community she cherished. She attended Portageville High School, where she contributed to the school yearbook, participated in numerous clubs and activities, and was honored as Homecoming Maid before graduating with the Class of 1966. She continued her education at Southeast Missouri State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1970 and a Master's Degree in Education in 1972.

On August 20, 1966, she married the love of her life, Donald Rone Jr., at the First Church of God in Portageville. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Donald "Trey" Rone llI and James "Kevin" Rone, who, along with their wives and children, became the great joy of Myra's life. Nothing made her prouder than gathering her family around her table, celebrating their accomplishments, and watching new generations grow.

For thirty years, Myra devoted herself to the children of Portageville as an educator at Portageville Elementary School. Beginning her career in special education and later spending many years as a beloved third-grade teacher, she helped shape the lives of countless students. She was named National Teacher of the Year by the Walmart Corporation in the 90's. Fellow teachers recalled she was always one of the most requested teachers by both students and parents alike. She also taught GED courses providing opportunities and encouragement to adults seeking to complete their education. Though she retired in 2000, her impact never faded. Years later, former students would still stop her in the grocery store, at Katie's Diner, or around town to share a hug, a memory, or simply to tell her how much she had meant to them. To generations of Portageville families, she was a teacher whose kindness, patience, and gentle spirit left a lasting mark.

Myra was a lifelong member of the First Church of God in Portageville. Her faith was not something she merely professed --it was something she lived every day. She taught Sunday School, worked with young people, and quietly served wherever she was needed. She possessed a rare gentleness that made everyone feel welcome, valued, and loved. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her unwavering faith, her devotion to her family, and her calm and soothing demeanor. In a world that often judges quickly and harshly, Myra remained a steady example of kindness, dignity, and Christian love,

Survivors include her husband of nearly sixty years, Donald Rone Jr. of Portageville; two sons, Donald "Trey" (Valerie) Rone IlI of Portageville and James "Kevin" (Tricia) Rone of Portageville; five granddaughters, Mikayla (Bryce) Wallace, Shelby Rone, Reece Beth Rone, Phoebe Rone, and Grace Rone; one grandson, Bryce Rone; one great-grandson, Elijah Dell Wallace, all of Portageville; and one sister, Joy Lynn (Mike) Chipman of Portageville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Faries. in 2025.Myra's life was a blessing to her family, her church, her students, and her community. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and quiet service that will continue to live on in the many lives she touched
