Louise Chambers was born February 14, 1929 and died peacefully at home among family on December 17, 2019. A lifelong resident of the Portageville community, she married Bob Chambers on September 13, 1948.  Together they raised a family of four daughters and one son. From that family, she went on to have 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was very active in both her churches through the years, Boekerton Baptist Church and First Baptist Portageville. She worked many years in the Food Pantry and Clothes Closet at First Baptist. She was active in the choir and always gave extensively of her time to help others.

Later in life, Louise took up the habit of crocheting mats for the homeless. These mats were made of strips cut from recycled plastic bags. She made a total of approximately 200 mats. Most all of these were taken to the Salvation Army in Cape Girardeau. There was much excitement at Salvation Army when they saw her coming with armloads of mats. She could make something positive from nothing.
Louise and Bob travelled every year, going to the east and west coasts and both northern and southern borders. Later on, Louise traveled even more to Hawaii, Europe and the Caribbean. She never met a stranger and might have talked excessively.

She leaves behind her five children: Pat Weddington of Alamo, TX; Joyce Ballard of La Grange, TN; Roberta Bradfield of Rainier, OR; Alice Swilley of Portageville, MO; and Bill Chambers of Golden, MS. .  Also to Cherish her memory are her dear friend and neighbor, Regina Grant, and a host of other relatives and friends.
