Lillian Marie (Travelstead) Thompson

W as born May 30, 1933 in Point Pleasant, MO to Fred Roosevelt and Rosie Lee (Pyles) Travelstead. She went to be with the Lord on Tuesday February 13, 2018 at the age of 84 years, 8 months & 14 days.

P receding her in death were her parents, Rosie Lee (Pyles) Travelstead and Fred Roosevelt, her husband, "Bud" Thompson, three brothers; Hershel Travelstead, Charles Travelstead and Leonard Travelstead and one sister, Christine Brown, One son-in-law Lanny Laws

M arie was united in marriage to Lawrence Edward (Bud) Thompson on October 29, 1955 in Kansas City, MO. They celebrate 50 years together.

M arie graduated from the MO School for the Blind on June 4. 1954. She was active and willing to listen and help support people with & without disabilities in many ways. She was past president of Delta Area of the Blind from March of 1983 until March 2011, also served on Delta Ara Board of Representative for Missouri Council of the Blind for many Years. She was very active in all legislative issues related to people with a visual impairment. She was a member of Sight & Sound of St. Louis from 2011 until 2018. A past President of Library users from March 2014 until September 2015. A member of the Missouri Council of the Blind Special Services Committee. She was on the founding members of Bootheel Area Independent Living Center (BAILS) and served as board member from December 1996 until 2001. She received the Nathaniel Johnson Award service to the Blind & Disabled.

I n 2010 Marie moved to St. Louis where she enjoyed and stayed active with friends and clubs, she also played tambourine in a blues band entertaining residents in nursing homes. She served many more years helping to educate children about people with disabilities going out to different school in the area with her guide dog Ringo.

M arie is survived by her two daughters: Rosemarie (Ricky) Taylor and Brenda Laws both of Portageville, MO, four grandsons; Lanny Gene "Scooter"(Jennifer) Laws Jr., Leonard Edward (Jessica) Laws of Portageville, MO, Brian Allen Taylor of Houston, TX, Aaron Michael (Lori) Taylor of Gallatin, TN, four great grandsons; Lee Laws, Trey Laws, Riley Taylor & Killian Taylor, three great- granddaughters; Chloye Laws, Abby Laws and Macey Laws, four brothers, Maynard Travelstead, Ep (Bud) Travelstead, Alfred Travelstead & Michael Travelstead, Five sisters; Geraldine Smith, Peggy Wilbanks, Louise Johnson, Linda Pugh & Sue King and a large host of family and friends.
