Katie Mae Mickles was born March 11, 1929 in Earle, Arkansas to the late Earron and Bertha Williams. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active and dedicated member of the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Portageville, Missouri for many years. Katie was a faithful worker as Choir President, Usher and Sunday School Teacher, until her health failed. She sang in singing groups. She enjoyed singing praises unto the Lord. Katie was a caregiver to children in the community. She worked at DAEOC Head Start and as a cook at Portageville School. She departed this life on November 17, 2013 at the Golden Years Nursing Home in Malden, Missouri. Katie was united in holy matrimony to the late Dewitt Mickles on June 24, 1943. Her son June Rose Williams, husband and parents were preceded in death. Katie's nine siblings who preceded her in death: Jessie Wallace, John Thomas Wallace, Mary Hicks, Rosie Lee Williams, Carrie Bell Williams, Fannie B. Johnson, Ollie Paul Williams, Aretha Walker and Earlene Townsend. She leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Elton Earl Jackson (Linda) of Malden, Missouri, five grandchildren, two sisters, Nellie V. Edwards of Chicago, Illinois and Martha Baker of Smithton, Illinois, three God-daughters: Zennie Nadine Jackson, Evelyn Taylor and Margaret Partee all of Portageville, Missouri, six special friends: Rebecca Wright of Kansas City, Missouri and Frankie Jean Byrd, Ester West, Sue Martin, Carolyn Taylor and Debbie Moylan all of Portageville, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
