John Wesley Greer of Olive Branch, MS was born on December 13, 1942 to Winnie Virginia McCoy Greer and John William Greer in Nashville, TN. He passed away on June 29, 2023 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN at the age of 80.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his only sibling, Peggy Jean Kirkpatrick of Memphis, TN; and one grandchild, John Roland Hazen.

John was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Olive Branch, MS, where he served as trustee and head of security. He came to know his Lord Jesus Christ at the age of nine. John served honorably in the U.S. Navy and Army National Guard serving as First Sergeant over three Southeast Missouri Armories. He was an avid shooter before his health declined, and he was a lifetime member of Memphis Sports Shooting Association and Desoto Rifle and Pistol Club. John was also a very skilled craftsman. One of his great joys was having breakfast with his friends on Monday mornings at the local IHOP, but his greatest joy was from being with his family. On February 3, 1989, he was united in marriage to Vicki Annette Phillips Johnson, who survives of the home.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of thirty-four years, Vicki Greer of Olive Branch, MS; his daughters, Lisa Erdoes (Michael) of Smyrna, GA, Amy Luckett (Danny) of Pegram, TN, Hollie Hazen (Dan) of Troutman, NC; a very special nephew and niece, Steve and Tammy Shaneyfelt of Hernando, MS; brother-in-law, Jay Kirkpatrick of Memphis, TN; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at Temple Baptist Church, 8432 Germantown Rd., Olive Branch, MS, on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, with the visitation from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm and the funeral service following at 3:00 pm. There will be a private interment at Portageville Cemetery, Portageville, MO at a later date. Pastor Sam Stallings will officiate.
