John Allen Calhoun of Deering, Missouri was born on June 12, 1944 in Lilbourn, Missouri to James F. "Bud" Calhoun and Betty Jean (Greene) Calhoun.  He departed this life on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 27 days.

John graduated from Delta C-7 Schools in 1962 and graduated from Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and later received his Master of Science in Education degree.  He entered Medical School where he spent two years in medical training before returning home to help care for family members.

John was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. Because of his medical training, he was chosen to serve in the medical facilities at Fort Hood, Texas. He was then transferred to Germany for the rest of his tour where he continued work in the labs there.  John received many accommodations for his excellent lab work during this time.

After leaving the Army, John began his teaching career.  He retired after nearly 40 years in the school systems in Pemiscot County.  His longest teaching assignment was as a Special Education teacher at Delta C-7 Schools in Deering.

John was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Freddie J. Calhoun.  He is survived by his two nieces, Alesia (Keith) Gammill and Melissa Deniston; his sister-in-law, Paula Calhoun; two great-nephews, Tyler Gammill and Nick Deniston; one great-niece, Erin Gammill; many cousins and many friends.

A Celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Delta C-7 Gymnasium at 3:00 P.M.
