Jessie Brown was born on August 29, 1962 in Hayti, Missouri. He was one of nine children born to the union of JB Brown and Mary Lee Hunt Brown. Jessie's parents, sister, Diane Ruff and three brothers, Willie Brown, Bernard Brown, and Dorsey Brown, all preceded him in death.

Jessie attended the Gideon Public Schools where he demonstrated strong leadership skills and athleticism, having been elected class president and named to the All-Conference and -District teams in basketball at Gideon High School.

Jessie loved family and worked hard to keep his family strong and together. If morning coffee and talks with his kids and other family can be considered a hobby, then that would be included on Jessie's list of favorite things to do. He gave some good advice on those calls and was happy to share his thoughts.

Jessie drew strength from his family. He raised Jessica and Jamie for several years as a single Dad. He was always willing to help and sacrifice for his family. He loved his children and wanted them to be strong and independent. Aside from Jessie's love and commitment for his children he had a deep love and appreciation for his grandchildren. Jessie was very involved in his grandchildren's life; working hard, demonstrating respect, and compassion were daily lessons he gave to them.

While Jessie clearly loved his whole family, he and Barry were not only brothers but were also best friends. They were often called peanut butter and jelly because they did everything together and one was not often seen without the other.

Jessie was an accomplished Black entrepreneur who never wanted to punch a clock for someone else. He grew up on a farm, which made him a hard worker and jack of all trades, who was highly intelligent, thoughtful, wise and multi-talented. Jessie was not only approachable and willing to lend a helping hand to any and everyone, but he loved young people and was known as a mentor to many kids in the neighborhood.

Those who knew Jessie know that he liked to have a good time and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing dominoes. Everyone also knows that Jessie was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Jessie leaves to cherish his memory five exceptional adult and teenage children, Kendrick Bobo (Christie Bobo) (mother, Shell Bobo); Jamie Brown and Jessica Brown, born from Jessie's first marriage to Sherry Jeanne Brown who preceded him in death; Logan Brown & Kyla Brown, both born from his marriage to Kristyn Miller. He also leaves eight amazing grandchildren: Kendriyuna, Kendrick, Jr., Kamaria, Jaeden, Brady, Kohen, Scarlette, and Camdyn; four brothers, Carl Brown, Steve Brown (Brenda), Barry Brown, and Alonzo Brown (Felicia "Fe"); one brother-in-law, Edward Ruff and one sister-in-law, Brenda Brown; a host of nephews & nieces, including: Michael, Randy Ray, Kenneth Wayne, Elzada, Chaquetta, Natasha, Frederick, Damien, Rere , Menyone, Fanown, Edward Charles II, Justin, Renata, Champagne, Tiffany, Cari, Cara, Carl, Jr., Tranea, Terrell, Felicia, Chad, Rosetta, Rhonda, Breanna, Stevfon, Latrena, Barry, Jr., Andrew, Makalani, Blair, Alanna, JaQuanna, and Marcquel; and host of aunts and uncles from Grand Rapids, MI and Chicago, IL and countless cousins, other family and close friends.

Visitation will be Thursday May 13, 2021 at DeLisle Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
