James Scott Stafford, 62, of Portageville, Missouri, passed away on August 13, 2023 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Scott was born on October 4, 1960 to Jim and Pansy Stafford, and spent his life in Portageville, graduating from Portageville High School in 1979, where he played varsity football. Following in his family's tradition, Scott began working at Stafford's Furniture as a teenager, and continued to work there, eventually running it himself, for 40 years.

Scott is survived by his children, Josh Michael (Alex) Gowan, Mindy Lynn (Josh) Crowley, Myles Kenton Stafford, Sara Scott Stafford, Bethany Ann Stafford, James William Case Stafford, and Colt Fisher Stafford, three grandsons, Jameson Gowan, Sam Crowley, and Kai Gowan, and a granddaughter, Lynn-Avery Crowley, as well as his sister, Kristi (Mike) Johnson, several nieces, and many loving, extended family members and friends.

Scott is preceded in death by his father, James Stafford, and mother, Pansy Stafford.

Scott loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and enjoyed spending countless hours at Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs fan, and always enjoyed his Monday night poker games.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at DeLisle Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Wednesday, August 17 at 10 a.m., also at DeLisle Funeral Home.
