Was born Jan. 31, 1920 in Portageville, Missouri to Cecil Slider and Maggie Mae (Sutton) Slider. She passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in Portageville at the age of 98 years, 2 months and 17 days.
Mrs Hawks was a graduate of Wardell High School in 1943 and then attended Southeast Missouri State University, she taught school for a while then after marriage she truly loved the farming life. .January 31, 1946 she married James Henry Hawks in Caruthersville, MO.
Mrs Hawks was a truly a giving soul, she was always cooking, making quilts, or sewing for everyone in town, she also loved gardening and before her health declined she was very active in her church, First Baptist Church in Portageville belonging to the Keenagers, and assisting anyway she could.
Proceeding her in death were her parents: Maggie Mae (Sutton) Slider and Cecil Slider, her husband, James Henry Hawks (April 20, 1983), her children; Joyce Thomas & James Hawks, her brothers; Robert, Woodrow, Henry, Louis & Harvey, one sister, Viola , son-in-law, Lewis Lechenette.
She leaves to cherish so many memories her daughter; Diane Lechenette. of Portageville, Mo
Sister: Elsie Huey of Portageville, MO, grandchildren; Leslie Lechenette, Leann Lechenette, Matt Hawks , James William Hawks, great-grandchildren; Gabrielle Lechenette, Alex Hawks, Aiden Hawks, Dinah Jones (James's Soulmate) of Portageville, several nieces & nephews many other relatives and friends.
