In Memory of Grover Paul Neal July 17, 1953-April 24, 2025
Grover Paul Neal, 71, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, passed peacefully into his eternal rest with
Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 17, 1953, in Cape Girardeau to Paul Neal and Genese (Hufstedler) Neal. He
graduated from Portageville High School in 1971 before going on to earn bachelor's and master's
degrees in music education (emphasis in voice) from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape
Girardeau.
Grover spent his thirty-year career instilling a love of music in the students of Kennett, Missouri
School District and in the vocal and choral college students at Arkansas Northeastern College
(previously Mississippi County Community College) in Blytheville, Arkansas. He also served for many
years as a minister of music at First Presbyterian Church in Blytheville.
Grover will not only be remembered for his beautiful baritone singing voice and his many other
musical talents, but also for his boisterous laugh, his sense of humor, and for his southern
gentleman charm.
His survivors include three children: Skip (Patti) Neal and their children of Houma, Louisiana;
Maria (Justin) Lowry and their children of Eastman, Georgia; and Spencer (LouJeana) Neal and their
children of Paragould, Arkansas.
He will be dearly missed by cousins, Julia Jean (Adams) Combs of Cape Girardeau; Rebecca (Gary)
Shoemaker of St. Peters, Missouri; Deanna Turner of Cape Girardeau; and by his longtime friends,
Carole Douglas of Chesterfield, Missouri and Janet Scherer of Kennett, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a cousin, Emily Story of Kennett, Missouri; dear friend,
Richard Combs of Jackson, Missouri, and by a special "mother", Juanita Shoults previously of
Portageville, Missouri.
Burial will be under the direction of DeLisle Funeral Home at Portageville Cemetery in
Portageville, Missouri. A private family memorial gathering will be
held in the future.
