Florence Marie Gill

Florence Marie Gill passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord January 9, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She had just celebrated her 97th birthday.

Florence was born on December 18, 1927 in Netherland, Missouri to John Jenkins and Maggie Irvin Jenkins. She was united in marriage to Bobby G. Gill on October 14, 1942. They were fortunate to celebrate 69 years together before his death in 2011.

She is survived by her children, Sandra Gill Sayre (Bill) and Robert Glenn Gill, Sr. (Marie). She has three grandsons, Trey Sayre, Robert Glenn Gill, Jr. (Amber), and Ryan G. Gill (Louise Sarver), and one great-grandson, Owen Brantley Gill.

Florence is predeceased by siblings Vida Wade (Ted), Dorothy Winters (Bill), and Thomas Jenkins (Mary). She is survived by her sister and brother, Johnnie Sciortino (Tony) and Guy Jenkins (Mary). She also had many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.

Florence was a dental assistant for many years in the Bootheel area, where many former patients remember her fondly as their angel of mercy while in the office. Later she worked with the Portageville school system for many years, before working for the US Postal Service, where she retired at 72 years old.

She was a member of the Portageville First Baptist Church for more than 50 years. Florence loved sharing her faith in Christ, and through that faith, she found incredible strength to carry her through major health issues since 2009. At the end, she was still thanking her Heavenly Father. One of her favorite things to do was wake early, watch the sunrise while having her coffee and enjoy her morning devotional. She found great pleasure in spending time with treasured family and friends, and she enjoyed reading and nature, especially watching birds and butterflies.

She was dearly loved and she will be missed.
