Ethel Lou (Campbell) Shepherd was born Ethel Lou Washington on August 13,1919 on the Thompson Plantation in Lamar, Mississippi. Having lost her mother as an infant, Ethel and her four brothers were raised by Henry and Olivia Campbell, both who preceded her in death. Later in life, Ethel became the proud and loving mother of two sons (from union with Jack Jones Sr.), one daughter (from union with Willie Hudson), and one son (from union with Odell Dye). In 1964, she was united in holy matrimony to George Shepherd and became stepmother to his four precious children. Ethel and George shared many of life's loves and challenges before he preceded her in death in 1979. Not having been provided the opportunity for much of a formal education, Ethel's greatest accomplishment in life was accepting Jesus Christ in her life as her Savior. Mother Shepherd was a faithful member of Progessive Church of God in Christ in Caruthersville, Missouri under the leadership of Elder Roosevelt Martin. She could be seen often on Sunday mornings in her "white church clothes" catching the church bus. Mother Shepherd had a great love for her church family and remained at Progessive Church of God in Christ until her death. On August 16, 2012 at Medical Center of Aurora in Colorado, Mother Shepherd made her transition. In addition to her parents, her brothers and her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter (Willie Mae Owens), one son(James Dye), one stepson (Jerry Shepherd), and two granddaughters(Willie B. Owens and Linda Macon). Mother Ethel Shepherd leaves to cherish her enduring memories: her loyal and dedicated sons Jack Jones Jr. and Richard James Jones Sr. both of New Madrid, Missouri; her wonderful stepchildren Zelnora Brown of Fulton, Kentucky, Dorothy Grissom of Lilbourn, Missouri and James Earl Shepherd, West Memphis, Arkansas; her beautiful sisters, Mary Louise Jackson of Danville, IL, Cleo Thomas of Memphis,TN and Opher Dorsey of Chicago,IL; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren all whom she loved dearly and held a very special place in her heart; her long time and very close friend, Arvelia Jennings, who she entrusted with her care and helped to make her life as comfortable and joyful as it could be; her Progressive Church of God in Christ family and a host of other family and friends. Mother Shepherd cherished family above all. The experience and wisdom she gained as a mother was one of her most precious treasures.
