Edsel C. Allen, Sr. Was born November 15, 1925 in Cross County, Arkansas to Myrtle (Hodgens) Allen and Ross Allen Sr. He died Wednesday April 30, 2008 at Portageville Nursing Center at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 15 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Ross & Myrtle Hodges Allen, six brothers and two sisters. Mr. Allen served as Librarian for 35 years with the Portageville School District before retiring; he was an active member of AARP Tax Aide, the Masonic Lodge, a long-time member of the Portageville First Baptist Church and served in the US Navy during WWII. He leaves to cherish his memories 4 sons: Edsel Allen Jr. of Denver, Colorado, Brian (Tammy) Allen of North Carolina, Michael (Marianne) Allen and Darian (Candice) Allen of Portageville, MO; one brother, Clyde & Sharon Allen of North Carolina; 9 grandchildren: Brittany Hinton, Ivy Hinton, Caleb Hinton, Casey Allen, Briana Allen, Ashley Allen, Thomas Allen, Clinton Allen, Lisa Allen & Sarah Wade; 3 great-grandchildren: Layton Parker Hinton, Bailey Ann Buchanan & Drew Michael Allen and a host of other relatives and friends.
