Edna Euladene (Wrather) Holt passed away on December 29, 2008 at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper, Wyoming, after a long struggle with heart and lung disease. She was 84 years old. "Dene" was born on 2/22/1924 in a Portageville farm house the tenth and last child of Benjamin Conley Wrather and the ninth child of Benjamin Conley and Icie Elizabeth (Todd) Wrather. She attended Scott School and Portageville Schools. Dene met Brannon Robert Claybourn Holt at Boekerton Baptist church and married him in Blytheville, Arkansas on August 2, 1941. She was a military wife and traveled with her husband and children to Germany and many different military bases in the United States. In 1971 Dene graduated from the Career Girl Beauty School located in Michigan and began to enjoy her career as a beautician. After divorcing Brannon, she returned to Portageville in 1976 and lived in the Wrather family home until she sold it in 2002. Dene attended the First Baptist church of Portageville where she occasionally taught Sunday School. She was a member of the PACE exercise group of Portageville. Due to health problems in December 2007 she moved to Casper, Wyoming to be near one of her daughters. Dene never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She was a caring and generous person. She is survived by her children, Jackie Janus and her husband, Richard, of Port Richey, Florida; Brannon Holt, Jr. and his wife Patricia, of Rochester Hills, Michigan; Roberta Flannery and her husband, Michael, of Royal Oak, Michigan; and Kaye Reed of Casper, Wyoming. She is survived also by her two special nieces, Rebecca Anne Lewis of Portageville and Icie Ermine Simpson of Kennett, Missouri. Dene had ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers and sisters, Audra Robert (AR) Wrather, Bennie Mae Keith, DeWitt Conley (DC) Wrather, Velma Maxine Frazier, Agnes Pauline Wiggins, John Kolan (JK) Wrather, Samuel Mason Wrather, James O'Dell Wrather, and Earlin Todd (Dude) Wrather. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Delisle Funeral Home of Portageville, Missouri with Dr. Buck Morton from the First Baptist Church of Portageville, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
