Edna
Ellington
Nov 14, 1939 — May 16, 2026
Edna Finley Riley Ellington
She was born November 14, 1939, on the family farm north of New Madrid, Mo, the sixth of seven children born to the late Davis B. and Amney May Haynes Riley. She left this earth peacefully on Saturday May 16, 2026 while a resident at The Arbors at Westridge Place Memory Care by Americare.
She graduated from New Madrid High School in 1957. The class of 1957 was a great group of classmates. They were all so close knit and stayed connected with each other, and this was an important part of Edna's adult life, staying in touch with her school classmates. She was a majorette and played the clarinet in the High School Band. She was also active in the FHA. She married John Girvin Ellington immediately out of high school.
She worked many years and retired from Associated Electric Cooperative, Marston, MO. She was a member of New Madrid First United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing in the Bell Choir. After retirement she enjoyed playing bridge; was an active "Red Hat" Society Member; provided gifts for bingo at the New Madrid Senior Citizens Center; had an avid "green thumb" in her yard; enjoyed sewing; photography and was a real chef for a good old time, homemade pizza and a melt in your mouth salad. Her pizza and delicious salad were an all-time family favorite at Christmas with the children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: John Girvin Ellington, Jr;(Alicia Susana); David Riley Ellington, and Mary Malynn Ellington. Her grandchildren, Alicia Lorraine Ellington Lewis, (Jonathan Stephen Lewis); John Edward Ellington; John Patrick Ellington and John Stephen Ellington; Hunter Morgan, and Mary Kate Renaud Plesko , (Pete Plesko). Great grandchildren, Noah Xavi Lewis; Fox Patrick Ellington; Audie Glenn Ellington; Jerzy Walton; Amerie, Maddyx, and Rhett Morgan; Katherine and Merritt Plesko; Genesis, Amora, and Nirvana Walton; and her sister and brother-in-law Sarah Lee & Furg Hunter, Jr., plus numerous nieces and nephews and a host of cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings George Riley; sister in law Virginia Ann Riley; Margie Riley Straka; brother in law, Richard Straka; D.B. Riley III; Amney May Riley Franks, brother in law Zane Franks, and Floyd Amos Riley; a niece Mary Hunter Riley Wolfe; a nephew Robert Straka, and two great nephews Camden Riley and Chris Bales.
The family extends gratitude to the staff at LaBonne Maison and The Arbors Memory Care Unit. Also to the staff with Legacy Hospice Care. We are very thankful for all the kindness, patience, and compassion shown to her during her illness.
