Charles A. Crandell, 73, passed away Monday January 26, 2015, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana surrounded by his family and friends. Charles was born Saturday, August 9, 1941, in Redvale, Colorado, the son of Marion R. and Evelyn L. (Gilbert) Crandell. He married Margaret L. Armstrong in 1971 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She preceded him in death on April 29, 2002. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War as an antitank assault man. For three years he was an undefeated golden glove boxer for the USMC. He was a rifle and pistol expertmarksman in the USMC. Chuck worked for Frontier Kemper Construction Company in many different levels from the bottom to the top. He traveled to many different states building shafts and slopes for the mining industries and doing tunnel jobs. He was a very hard worker. After 47 years he retired in 2013 from Frontier Kemper (Mining) Construction. He was a member of Calhoun Christian Church, being a firm believer in the Lord. He was a diehard Cardinals baseball fan. He loved his man cave and country music. He enjoyed working on cars and trucks, as mechanic, and restoring his 1950 Ford, riding motorcycles, traveling the U.S. while working and taking his family. He enjoyed the mountains and loved car races. Chuck loved spending time with family and for many years taking on different hobbies shared with his wife. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Operating Engineers Local 513. Chuck donated to many organizations such as St. Jude's, Riley's Children's Hospitals, Cancer Research of America, School of Indians, and Make a Wish. He donated all the metal for a new roof on the V.F.W. Chuck was a very intelligent man. If it was broken, he could fix it; if it was slow, he could make it go fast; he had the answer or could find a solution for everything. He was always willing to help. Chuck sense of humor was never ending. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. Chuck was loved by many. Survivors are his children; Merlin (Eddie) Angel, Patricia (Angel) Acuna, Robert (Kenny) Angel, Tina (Berry) Davis, Chuck L. Crandell and Emma Lou McClanahan; a sister, Emagene Marion (Crandell) Puckett; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, and sister, Leota Verlene Crandell.
