Billie E. Crabtree

W as born July 25, 1925 in Wardell MO to Samuel A. Crabtree and Ocie Allison Crabtree. He passed on from this life Thursday August 17, 2017 in Kennett MO at the age of 92 years.

P receding him in death were his parents Ocie Allison Crabtree and Samuel A. Crabtree and one brother Allen Otto Crabtree. H e was united in marriage to Maribelle Lancaster in Woodriver IL on July 28, 1951. She survives at the home.

I n 1943, he enlisted in the U.S Navy and was assigned to the 1 st Marine Division in the South Pacific where he served as Corpsman (medic). In 1980, he retired from the U.S Postal Service as a rural letter carrier for Wardell. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1957 and also the local VFW. He served as president of the Rotary Club and a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America. He also formed one of the first Little League organizations in Wardell. As a result of his significant contributions to his community, in 2012 Bill was recognized by the Pemiscot County Historical Society as their recipient of the Pioneer Heritage Award.

I n 1959, Bill gave his life to Christ and served as deacon for Wardell Baptist Church for 48 years. Bill was often remembered for his love of the outdoors--especially duck and squirrel hunting.  He often highlighted these adventures in the articles he wrote for local newspapers.

H e leaves to cherish his many memories: his wife of 66 years,  Maribelle Crabtree of Wardell, MO; one son, William (Bill) Crabtree of Indianapolis, IN; two daughters, Cynthia (Ray) Leyva of Missouri City, TX and Mary "Susan" (Ray) Taylor of Bentonville, AR; his grandchildren: Sarah Crabtree Belyew, Allyson Crabtree, James W. Leyva, Amy Taylor Tummons, Melissa Taylor Mitchell and Emma DeLess Taylor; two great grandchildren, Ethan Belyew and Caleb Alexander Belyew and a host of many other relatives and friends
