BETTY JANE HAYES

W as born on February 12, 1933 in Biggers, Arkansas to the late Arah (Jones) and Earl Washburn. On Saturday, May 6, 2023 she passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family at her home in Sikeston, Missouri at the age 90 years, 2 months and 24 days.

Betty was married to Harold (PeeWee) Hayes on January 5, 1952. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before his death on March 8, 2012. Also preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a sister, Carolyn Buys.

Betty was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church of Portageville and later First Baptist in Sikeston. Anyone who knew Betty recognized her loving, gentle, caring spirit, she was always kind and respectful of others. She had a special place in her heart for everyone especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she will be missed beyond measure.

Betty loved to read and spend time with her family.

After their retirement from farming Betty and PeeWee loved to spend time at their place on Kentucky Lake. They loved riding their sea-doo and pontoon. Later on Betty also loved spending time with her lady friends at Labonne Maison at the clubhouse.

She is survived by her three daughters, Kathy (Steve) St Mary, Vicki (Charlie) Lange both of Portageville, MO, Jane (Phil) Carlton of Brentwood, TN. Six grandchildren. Barrett (Brittni) St Mary, Amy Moylan, Beth (Lee) Richardson, Erin (Ryan) Parker, Megan (Jonathan) Eads and Lee Carlton, 14 great-grandchildren, Luke, Lila, Blaire Moylan, Ty Allen St Mary, Bronner, Jack, Henry Richardson, Eli, Emery, Grayson, Caroline Parker, Ella Grace, Harper, Claire Eads and many other relatives and friends.
