Obituary

Betty Lou Edgar was born Jan. 26, 1933 in Bismark, Missouri to Bessie Goldie Simms Gilmer and George Tony Gilmer. She died Tuesday Nov. 3, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 8 days. She was united in marriage on August 28th, 1953 in Esther, MO to Delbert Louie Edgar who preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories 3 daughters, Carol (Roger) Crafton of Portageville, MO, Linda (Russ) Hargrave of Farmersville, TX and Mary (David) Matlock of Damascus, VA and one son, Delmar (Angie) Edgar of Portageville, MO. Eight Grandchildren, Danielle Crafton Richard (Ryan) of Little Rock, AR, Jason Matlock (Julie) of Damascus, VA, Beth Matlock Austin (Garrett) of Damascus, VA, Seth Hargrave of Farmersville, TX, Allyson Crafton Crouthers (Daniel) of Vicksburg, MS Micah Hargrave (Ryan) of Houston, TX, Ricky Edgar (Ashlea) of Portageville, MO, Amanda Edgar of Portageville, MO and one Great-Grandchild, Mason Hunter Edgar of Portageville, MO. Two brothers, Bill (Betty) Gilmer of Maryland Heights, MO and Joe (Darlene) Gilmer of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Twin sister, Ella (Bob) Marshall of Malden, MO and a host of other family and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Goldie Gilmer and two brothers Paul Gale Gilmer and Tony Gilmer. Betty had a big heart which everyone was able to see. The joys of her life were her family, friends, church and her job. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Portageville for 41 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Girls in Action Leader and member of WMU. Betty was the co-owner of Edgar's Supermarket in Portageville from 1968-1981. In 1982, she joined Baker's Big Star and became the Office Manager where she remained a devoted employee until the Lord called her home.
