Berna Dean Daugherty, age 93 years, 10 months, and 11 days, of Portageville, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, at New Madrid Living Center in New Madrid, Missouri.

Berna was born on November 6, 1932, in Blytheville, Arkansas, to Herbert Jessie Fondren and Velma Sealy Fondren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, faithful servant of her church, and a valued member of her community.

Berna was united in marriage to Charles Gene Daugherty on June 23, 1960, in Blytheville, Arkansas. Charles preceded her in death on February 15, 2010.

A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Portageville, Berna faithfully served her church as secretary for many years and was involved in numerous church groups. She was also a member of the Portageville Garden Club.

Berna was known for her strong business skills and dedication to her work. Throughout her career, she served as an office manager for several major businesses in the area, including Killion Rone Wilson Gin Company and local automobile dealerships. Her hard work, knowledge, and commitment contributed to the success of the businesses and people she served.

Above all, Berna's life was devoted to her family, her faith, and her community. She will be remembered for her dedication, dependability, kindness, and the many ways she gave of herself to those around her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Gene Daugherty; her parents, Herbert Jessie Fondren and Velma Sealy Fondren; and her siblings, Mable Lois (Fondren) Lunsford, Jaunita (Fondren) Peters, Loyd Oliver Fondren, Floyd Franklin Fondren, Lucile (Fondren) Webb, Jesse Lorenza Fondren, Alvin Fondren, Bernice (Fondren) Duncan, and Wilma (Fondren) Gastineau.

Berna is survived by her sons, Jon Colin Daugherty of Portageville, Missouri, and Steve (Mary Ada) Daugherty of Portageville, Missouri; her grandchildren, Tyler (Daley) Daugherty, Justin Daugherty, Logan Daugherty, LaJeana Terrett, Larry (LeAnn) Palmer, Lindsey (Mark) Gibbins, Logan Ford, Madison (Kyle) Causey, and Abigail Palmer; and her great-grandchildren, Lorelei Gibbins, Colt Gibbins, Mackey May Daugherty, and Andie Kate Daugherty.

She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, service, and love that will continue through the generations.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Portageville, Missouri.Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 2, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Portageville, with burial to follow at Portageville Cemetery.
