Born the sixth of nine children to Annie Laurie Montgomery and James Wade Tipton, Sr., Annie Laurie Tipton entered the world on December 28, 1919 in Tiptonville, Tennessee. Later, she and her family moved across the river. Growing up in Caruthersville, Missouri, she discovered her love and talent for singing and met her future husband, Aubra Roy Wrather. After high school, she moved to New York City, where she studied voice under Oscar Seagle. She returned to her hometown and married Aubra on April 21, 1940. Annie and Aubra resided and raised their children in Portageville, Missouri. They were married for almost sixty-nine years at the time of his death. As an active member of the Portageville First United Methodist Church, Annie was a choir member and served as director, Sunday school teacher, MYF leader, and attended Prayer Group. Her social calendar consisted of PEO activities, enjoying a cup of coffee with her many friends and hosting tea parties for her grandchildren. She stayed active by water and snow skiing, painting, sewing, singing at various events, showing her Tennessee walker, traveling and dancing a graceful waltz with or foxtrot with her love, Aubra. Annie passed away peacefully at home Monday, September 9, 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband, Aubra Roy Wrather, Jr; her sons, William Tipton Wrather and James Robert Wrather; her parents, Annie Laurie Montgomery Tipton and James Wade Tipton, Sr.; and all of her siblings: James WadeTipton, Jr., Martha Elizabeth Tipton James, Thomas Montgomery Tipton, Henry Field Tipton, Lady Marjorie Tipton, Joseph Reuben Tipton, Jackson Hale Tipton and Bill Tipton. Awaiting to see her again after this life are: her children, A. Roy Wrather, III, with wife Brenda of Covington, Tennessee, Charles Benjamin Wrather of Silverthorne, Colorado; Rebecca W. Horstkoetter, with husband John of Anchorage, Alaska; her grandchildren, Deborah with husband Joseph Winberry, Linda with husband Kevin Childers, Stacey with husband Trey Nolan, Kelly with husband Gordon Proud, Anna with husband William Elliott, David Horstkoetter, Paul with wife Stephanie Horstkoetter, and Michael Horstkoetter; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends, including Mrs. Lovie Holmes.
